چکیده مقاله:

the effectiveness of exposure treatment for different types of anxiety disorders has been well established.overall, effective techniques to reduce fear or anxiety involve exposing the patient to distressing situation until he/she adapts to situation.desensitization, flooding, implosion, modeling, cagnitive rehearsal, and even some traditional strategies can all be viewed as variations of the technique exposure.whereas variables which influence efficacy of exposure(e.g. duration of sessions)have been investigated extensively, less is known about the processes which take place during this therapy.three models have been discussed in this respect:1) Eysenck,s model which emphasizes the role of incubation/enhancement as a possible mechanism:2) bio-informational theory of lang which stresses that a fear is presented in long-term memory as a network of propositionally coded information:and 3) emotional processing of fear which emphasizes exposure to corrective information.these models have been analyzed and evaluated.in conclusion, some practical implications of constructive and planned exposure to feared situations in real life, have been discussed.

Emotional processing of fear: exposure to corrective information.

In this article we propose mechanisms that govern the processing of emotional information, particularly those involved in fear reduction. Emotions are viewed as represented by information structures in memory, and anxiety is thought to occur when an information structure that serves as program to escape or avoid danger is activated. Emotional processing is defined as the modification of memory ...

Emotional processing and panic.

In this paper Rachman's concept of emotional processing was extended and a model highlighting the psychological operations underpinning processing was specified. Using this model, the aim was to investigate, by means of a questionnaire, whether patients with panic disorder (n=50) have more emotional processing difficulties than two samples of healthy controls (London, n=406; Aberdeen, n=125). T...

In this article, we survey an array of diverse findings across bas...

Beyond cognitive-behavioral therapy for fibromyalgia: addressing stress by emotional exposure, processing, and resolution

I comment on the well-designed trial by Alda and colleagues reported in a recent issue of Arthritis Research and Therapy which demonstrated some benefits of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for fibromyalgia (FM). CBT in this and other studies provides statistically significant but rather modest benefits for FM. This may be because CBT does not directly address the high rates of victimization,...

Processing of emotional reactivity and emotional memory over sleep.

Sleep enhances memories, particularly emotional memories. As such, it has been suggested that sleep deprivation may reduce posttraumatic stress disorder. This presumes that emotional memory consolidation is paralleled by a reduction in emotional reactivity, an association that has not yet been examined. In the present experiment, we used an incidental memory task in humans and obtained valence ...
